Eric Olson Speaks on the Future of Wearables at “Evenings at the Loft”

Evenings At The Loft: Wearables Discussion

On Friday, April 17, K:D Director of Design Eric Olson joined Tommy Chang of Misfit Wearables and Uzair Hussain of Cleu as a featured speaker at Kluge’s Evenings at the Loft, a monthly speaker series based around immersive experiences and design conversations. In line with the event’s theme, “Wearables and Design,” Eric spoke about the future of wearables. Eric examined the role of emotion and function in designing wearable devices, and the growing "connected health" trend. He also explained how technology like geotagging and ambient computing could be leveraged to create wearables that blend seamlessly into users’ every day lives—and that, eventually, could become invisible.

Next, Tommy Chang spoke about Misfit’s journey, sharing the story of how the San Francisco-based startup transformed from an Indiegogo campaign to the cutting-edge, design-centric wearables leader it is known as today. Chang discussed the design strategy behind the Shine, Misfit’s popular wearable fitness tracker, and talked about the company’s partnerships and future plans to move into the home automation space.

Finally, Uzair Hussain talked about the challenges and successes of developing Cleu’s smart alarm clock app, which design teams have been working tirelessly to adapt to the new Apple Watch interface.
