Defining What’s Next
A visual tool for translating front-end user research into innovative product concepts, ModeMapping identifies areas of unmet need.
When our team returns from field research, they bring hours of video footage, hundreds of photos and volumes of transcripts. For visually oriented designers, analyzing this data can feel like drinking from a fire hose. To ensure that our field research translates into innovative, user-driven concepts as a project progresses from research to design, we developed ModeMapping—our proprietary tool for visualizing emotion and activity and engaging designers in an empathetic experience.
Created by designers for designers, ModeMapping illustrates a customer’s experience and emotions in a visual storyline. Viewing a series of ModeMaps side by side, creative teams can spot patterns that indicate reoccurring user experiences. We use the patterns, which represent opportunities for design to influence a situation, to drive actionable product solutions.
